Brian Hummell - AZ/NM Government Relations Director
Brian Hummell is in his 15th year as the Arizona Director of Government Relations for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. Brian has also led or been a part of coalitions responsible for a number of access to care wins for patients at the state level including Biomarker Testing Coverage legislation in both Arizona and New Mexico and Medicaid Expansion in Arizona. Additionally, Brian has provided technical assistance tobacco regulation campaigns at the local level in Arizona. In 2014, Brian received both the ACS CAN National Advocacy Leadership Award and the C-Change President’s Award. In 2017 he was the recipient of the Prevent Cancer Foundation Laureate Award for Advocacy. Brian was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2023 and continues to advocate for access to care, investments in research/prevention, and comprehensive tobacco control.

Cristianne Scherrer - AZ Grassroots Manager
Cristianne Scherrer is in her 3rd year as the Arizona Grassroots Manager for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. She has experience organizing events, connecting legislators with constituents, mobilizing voters along with planning and managaging lobby days (state and federal)/similar events, to drive engagement and policy wins. As Arizona Grassroots Manager for ACS CAN, Cristianne serves as a liaison between volunteers and staff, and importantly volunteers and elected officials, empowering advocates to advance evidence-based public policies that reduce the cancer burden for all.
During her tenure with ACS CAN, she has assisted with the integration of ACS’s Colleges Against Cancer initiative at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona, is part of various coalitions focused on reducing cancer and other healthcare burdens at the state/national level, and in 2026 was appointed to serve as a member of the Tobacco Revenue, Use, Spending & Tracking (TRUST) Commission at ADHS, which works in consultation with the Dept. of Health to determine the use of tobacco tax revenues provided through AZ Propositions 200 & 303. Also in 2026, she became a member of the Training Education Community Advisory Board (TECAB) for Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC), a program within the University of Arizona Cancer Center that supports career development for cancer researchers, health professionals, and students through training, mentorship, and funding opportunities.

Amy Graham - State Lead Ambassador
I advocate with ACS CAN because I’ve seen how important it is to have our voices heard. Me and my family have been touched by cancer many times. I’ve also lost several family and friends to this horrible disease. I understand just how powerful we can be when we come together and leverage our voices! As long as I am able, I will continue to rise up and speak for those that are no longer able and for our future generations!
Evelyn Ríos - Vice State Lead Ambassador
Evelyn Ríos serves as the Vice Arizona State Lead Ambassador for ACS CAN, where she advocates for policies that expand access to quality cancer care, early detection, and prevention. A dedicated advocate for more than three years, she began her advocacy journey as an ACT Lead and has represented Arizona at both the state Capitol and on Capitol Hill. Having seen firsthand how cancer touches the lives of loved ones and entire communities, Evelyn is passionate about ensuring that every person has access to timely screenings and lifesaving care.
She is an active leadership team member of ACSí Se Puede Hispanic/Latino Advocacy Alliance, where she helps advance efforts that reduce cancer disparities by increasing awareness, strengthening partnerships, influencing public policy, and engaging volunteers whose lived experiences reflect the diverse Hispanic and Latino communities they advocate for. Evelyn is also a member of the IMPACT interest group (Interdisciplinary Medical Professionals & Cancer Researchers Together), collaborating with healthcare professionals and researchers to strengthen evidence-based cancer advocacy and advancing increased funding for cancer research.
She believes every personal story has the power to influence policy and is committed to ensuring every voice is heard in order to create meaningful change for patients, survivors, caregivers and families.

Jennifer "Jen" Vance - Former State Lead Ambassador - Thank you so much for your volunteership with ACS CAN, Jen!
I am an ACS CAN volunteer advocate in memory of my father and the strength and bravery of his 13-year battle with prostate cancer. Through advocacy, I believe I can truly make a difference in the lives of those who have been touched by cancer. Taking action to help make real change to increase access to care, improve health equity and support cancer research is my personal mission so that all people who hear the words, “You have cancer”, have hope.
