Dr. Stewart: Oklahoma City, OK

Dr. StewardDr. Stewart is a pediatrician at Variety Care, a non-profit community health center in Oklahoma, where he’s practiced for 8 years. Over the course of the 13 years he’s practiced medicine, he has seen thousands of children who rely on Medicaid as their health insurance plan. “Many of the patients I provide care to are on Medicaid,” he said. “Although these families may include two working parents, many are still living below the poverty level. Medicaid gives families a chance at a better way of life.”

Dr. Stewart also has a personal connection to the importance of Medicaid. He fostered and adopted two boys who relied on Medicaid as their health insurance before being adopted. Surgeries and vaccines that they needed were covered. “Had our future sons not had access to Medicaid while they were in foster care, it would have only compounded the challenges they faced and still face today.”

In both his pediatric office and in his home, Dr. Stewart has seen the importance of access to medical care. “All families, regardless of their socio-economic status, should be able to get well and stay well.”

Special thanks to Variety Care for their partnership.
