9-11-09 This Week in Health Care Reform

It might be surprising, but the August recess is a busy time in Washington, D.C. While House and Senate members have returned to their home districts for the month, Capitol Hill is still buzzing with activity.

August is proving to be an intense and energetic time surrounding health care reform. As you are aware, members of the House of Representatives left Washington, D.C. last week to begin the August recess. The Senate is slated to wrap up its work today, but legislative action on health care reform will pick up post-recess when Congress returns in September.

In the Senate, negotiations among top Democrats and Republicans on the Finance Committee are continuing, but yesterday Chairman Baucus announced that a final committee agreement would not come before the Senate recess begins on August 7 th .
