Greta Johnson Receives Professional Achievement Award for Exceptional Performance in Cancer Advocacy

Washington, D.C., – Greta Johnson was presented the National Professional Achievement Award by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) for her dedication to championing the organization’s mission to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.

ACS CAN presents the award each year to a staff member who has made extraordinary contributions to the organization’s mission to reduce the burden of cancer through public policy change.

“Johnson has made an extraordinary impact in the fight against cancer,” said Lisa Lacasse, president of ACS CAN. “Her efforts have strengthened our advocacy campaigns nationwide and brought new energy toward reducing the cancer burden. She consistently goes above and beyond to support fellow staff members and volunteers alike, and we are thrilled to celebrate all that she has accomplished.”

Johnson has worked for ACS CAN since 2006 and currently serves as Director of Grassroots Advocacy.
Through her vision, innovation, and collaborative leadership, Cancer Votes has become an increasingly dynamic and effective program that equips staff and volunteers across the country to make a meaningful difference in the democratic process and to make cancer an election issue. The success of this work reflects not only Greta's exceptional organizational skills, but also the relationships she builds and the trust she earns from everyone fortunate enough to work alongside her.

The award was presented on Sept. 13 as part of the annual ACS CAN Leadership Summit and Lobby Day. Over 750 cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones met with their elected officials and urged them to prioritize cancer research and prevention programs, along with other proven cancer-fighting policies, highlighting the real-life impact these investments have on patients, families and communities nationwide.
