Nashville, TN — June 28, 2018 — Emily Ogden, who has had a long and successful career around the state legislature, joined the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) this month as the Tennessee government relations director.

Ogden has worked for over a decade on all sides of policy, politics and legislation. She held a position within Governor Bredesen’s administration where she worked on legislation including lobbying for policies that protect Tennesseans from the proven dangers of tobacco. Most recently, Ogden owned her own consulting firm where she has managed political and issue campaigns for the last six years. Ogden is a graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, and the University of Tennessee College of Law.

“I am excited to do my part in our fight against cancer by joining the ACS CAN team to advance legislation and practices to reduce suffering and death from cancer in the state of Tennessee,” Ogden said. “I look forward to working with the health care community, legislators, the governor and leaders across the state to bring us closer to a day when a cancer diagnosis is no longer life-threatening. We all have a part to play and contribute.”

Ogden will lead volunteers and staff across the state through campaigns to achieve progress on evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.

“Emily brings a wealth of lobbying and policy experience to our team,” said ACS CAN Managing Director, Government Relations James Sharp. “We are thrilled to have her onboard and looking out for the health of cancer patients, their families and all Tennesseans.”

Ogden is based in the American Cancer Society offices at the Hope Lodge in Nashville.
