Clara Cirks Receives National Volunteer Award for Commitment to Cancer Advocacy

DES MOINES, Iowa –  Clara Cirks was awarded Ambassador Constituent Team (ACT) Lead of the Year by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) for her exceptional commitment to advocacy work and making cancer a national priority.

Since stepping into the IA-03 ACT Lead role, Clara has demonstrated exceptional initiative and dedication from day one. She has embraced a team-oriented approach, consistently showing up and contributing across a wide range of activities that strengthen both our volunteer structure and our public policy efforts. Whether supporting major advocacy events, sharing her story through social and traditional media, or building relationships with lawmakers, Clara has proven herself to be a reliable and inspiring leader.

“Clara has shown remarkable dedication to bringing people together and building strong advocacy networks in Iowa,” said Lisa Lacasse, president of ACS CAN. “Her outstanding efforts shine through in the way she develops and leads volunteer teams to champion policies that improve lives and strengthen communities.”

This annual award is given to a lead congressional district volunteer who has demonstrated remarkable leadership in advocating for ACS CAN’s mission priority areas of cancer-related public policy.

The award was presented on Sept. 13 as part of the annual ACS CAN Leadership Summit and Lobby Day. More than 750 cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones met with their elected officials and urged them to prioritize cancer research and prevention programs, along with other proven cancer-fighting policies, highlighting the real-life impact these investments have on patients, families and communities nationwide.
