ACS CAN Reacts to Governor Cuomo’s Budget

Calls for Comprehensive Approach to Flavored Tobacco

January 21, 2020

ALBANY, NY –  In his budget message today, Governor Cuomo called for restricting the sale of flavored e-cigarettes, including menthol, in New York State.

American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Senior New York Government Relations Director Julie Hart released the following statement:

“While we are encouraged to see New York put forth a package to address the dangers of some tobacco use, it is important the package be strengthened to restrict the sale of all flavored tobacco products, increase the tax on all tobacco products and provide and a significant investment in the tobacco control program. To save lives and protect health, funding for cancer screenings must also be increased.”
