The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) has named award winning broadcast journalist Jennifer Costa, of Burlington, as Vermont government relations director. In this post, Costa will oversee advocacy efforts promoting evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.

Costa comes to ACS CAN after serving for six years in several capacities including news anchor and investigative reporter at WCAX TV in Burlington. As a journalist, Costa has gained expertise in issues including healthcare, government and politics.

“Vermont is facing crucial health care issues, including the need to protect young people from the dangers of tobacco products,” said Bill Sherman, managing director of government relations of ACS CAN. “Jennifer brings us a wealth of experience to help ACS CAN work to save lives and diminish suffering from cancer. She has maintained positive relationships with state leaders in all levels of government and advocacy.”

“ACS CAN works every day with government leaders and volunteers on crucial issues to help save lives and defeat cancer,” said Costa. “I look forward to being part the ACS CAN team to advocate our evidence-based policy proposals to our government leaders.”

While at WCAX TV Costa earned multiple Emmy nominations and regional Edward R. Murrow awards. She was also named Vermont Business Magazine’s “Rising Star” of 2016.

Costa lives in Burlington with her husband and daughter.
