Letter: Bill supports biomarker testing
This letter originally ran in the Lincoln Journal Star.
We are hearing great feedback from the cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers who participated in last week's Surviving the System Lobby Day.
For nearly all the participants, this was the first time they were involved in advocacy. Many said they are ready to become more involved in ACS CAN and are energized to become a part of the grassroots network of volunteers.
Here are some of their comments about the Surviving the System Lobby Day and events:
Tammy from Ohio says: "I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time I had in Washington. It was truly an honor to meet everyone at ACS CAN and all the political representatives and everyone in Washington. Everyone went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. Hopefully health care reform will pass and we will make health insurance better for everyone!"
Kathy from Florida says: "It was a memorable trip and a gainful experience. To witness the ACS CAN and the Hill in progress, making history in health care changes. Watching cancer survivors and cancer patients tell their stories in public with honor of being a cancer survivor. These events gives me hope for a future and surviving cancer... I will ask for local residents to call, e-mail or write to Congressman Boyd in Tallahassee concerning the need for health care reform. Maybe then, Congressman Boyd will truly understand the needs of his community for health care reform."
Dan from Tennessee says: "First off myself & Leigh Ann would like to thank you for the opportunity to be able to take part in such a very important movement! I have never been treated with such honor in my entire life... I know we will all make a difference together! But it is a great feeling to know that I was a small part in it! Again thank you from the bottom of my heart and believe me when I say it was all my pleasure to be such a small part in all of this!"
Phyllis from Pennsylvania says: "I would personally like to thank the ACS CAN for the wonderful job you all did putting this day together for us. We were treated with love and caring by everyone from your organization... We met so many wonderful people. Each one of us had our own story to tell... Again I feel this event and everything Sue and I learned from your staff and how the government works was wonderful. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I feel grateful that I was picked to be one of the lucky ones."
