Another Big Win for Cancer Research and Prevention

August 17, 2009
In yet another big win for cancer advocates, the U.S. House of Representatives passed its version of the Fiscal Year 2010 funding bill by a vote of 264-153. This bill includes increased money for cancer research and prevention

"This legislation provides an important down payment on the President's goal to double cancer research funding over the next eight years and will go a long way to help reduce suffering and death from this disease," said Daniel E. Smith, president of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. While ACS CAN is celebrating this important vote, it is one of the first steps in the process to secure lifesaving money for cancer patients and their families. ACS CAN advocates will continue to keep pressure on the U.S. Congress in the coming weeks to sustain these critical funds for the war on cancer. Don't understand the congressional budget/appropriations process? You're not alone.
