CQ Article: Bill Would Provide $50 Million for Colon Cancer Screening Programs Nationwide

A bill recently introduced would direct $50 million nationwide to programs that screen for, treat and monitor colon cancer and give priority to low-income, uninsured and underinsured individuals.

The bill (HR 1189) could result in preventing thousands of deaths each year, according to the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN)

Š—“Since colon cancer screening could actually prevent cancer by detection and removal of premalignant polyps, the programs initiated by this legislation could potentially save thousands of lives, avoid suffering due to cancer treatments, reduce the burden of cancer costs and prevent many colon cancer cases and deaths altogether,Š— Robert E. Youle, chairman of the ACS CANŠ—Ès board of directors, said in a statement.
