You're hearing a lot of talk about making health care AFFORDABLE. So, what does "affordable" really mean?
ACS CAN has outlined five key tenets to determine if legislation would make health care affordable for all Americans.ξ Legislation should include:
oξξξ Caps on patientsÈ out of pocket expenses
oξξξ An end to arbitrary annual and lifetime caps on benefits
oξξξ Reasonable premium costs and subsidies for those who need them
oξξξ Reducing or eliminating copays for preventive services, such as mammograms and colonoscopies
oξξξ No premium rating based on health status and limiting age rating so that older people pay no more than two times as much
When reading legislation or articles about the bills, keep those five things in mind.
At an event on Capitol Hill yesterday, ACS CAN President Dan Smith said that if we can fix the health care system for cancer patients and people with other serious conditions like CrohnÈs disease, we will fix the system for virtually anyone who needs quality health care.
A key part of that fix will be affordability.
