The following is a statement from Dr. Karen E. Knudsen, CEO of the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), on the passing of U.S. Representative Donald M. Payne Jr. (D-N.J.).

This week, state leaders approved the state budget for FY 2024-25. In response, Michael Davoli, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) New York Senior Government Relations Director, released the following statement:

La Cámara Baja de Illinois aprobó el Proyecto de Ley HB 5405 para incrementar el acceso y la diversidad en los ensayos clínicos.  

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Idaho State Rep. Sue Chew from pancreatic cancer. On behalf of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, we extend our deepest condolences to Rep. Chew’s family, friends and colleagues."

To mark Medicaid Awareness Month, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is shining a bright light on what Medicaid expansion means for Montana families in the fight against cancer. Residents should check their status following the completion of the unwinding, as 1 in 10 were removed from coverage, many for procedural reasons and who might still be eligible.

Last week, legislation that seeks to improve New Jerseyans’ access to biomarker testing was introduced in the Legislature. Biomarker testing helps connect cancer patients to the right treatment at the right time, often resulting in improved outcomes and quality of life. In some cases, biomarker testing may provide information that enables patients to forgo ineffective treatments and eliminate the potentially harmful, life-altering side effects of those treatments, which could also result in reduced health care costs.

To mark Medicaid Awareness Month, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is shining a bright light on what Medicaid expansion means for South Dakota families in the fight against cancer and how important it is to protect access to this lifesaving coverage by encouraging South Dakotans to vote no on Amendment F in November. The work-reporting requirements proposed in Amendment F will only block hard-working South Dakotans from accessing the health care needed to live happy, healthy lives. 

To mark Medicaid Awareness Month, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is shining a bright light on what expanding eligibility for the state’s Medicaid program would mean for Wyoming families in the fight against cancer. Wyoming remains one of only 10 states without Medicaid expansion.
