DOVER, DE – The Delaware State Senate has unanimously passed legislation that would ensure biomarker testing is covered by more insurance plans, including Medicaid, when patients need it.
Earlier today, cancer survivors, medical professionals and patient advocates from across Delaware convened in Dover at Legislative Hall as a part of ‘Delaware Advocacy Day.’ The main focus of Advocacy Day, which was hosted by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) and the Alzheimer’s Association (ALZ), was for volunteers to connect directly with legislators and ask for their support of Senate Bill 120, a bipartisan proposal to improve Delawareans’ access to biomarker testing.
The Delaware General Assembly recently passed Senate Bill 156 with strong bipartisan support, advancing the effort to reform medical debt collection practices in the First State. The bill will now go to Governor Meyer’s desk, providing him with the opportunity to limit the burden of medical debt on Delaware families.
Governor Carney has signed HS 1 of HB 302 this week, making Delaware the eighth state in the U.S. to enhance coverage of prostate cancer screenings for high-risk men. The bill eliminates costs for certain patients to get these lifesaving screenings, thus reducing barriers and increasing access to care for men over 40 with certain risk factors.
The Delaware legislature has passed HS 1 of HB 302, becoming just the 8th state to take action to enhance coverage of prostate cancer screenings for high-risk men. The bill would eliminate cost-sharing for these lifesaving screenings, thus reducing barriers and increasing access to prostate cancer screenings for men over 40 who meet certain risk factors. The legislation awaits Governor Carney’s consideration. Advocates with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) and ZERO Prostate Cancer are urging the governor to deliver a win to men across Delaware and sign the bill as soon as possible.
