Heather Youmans was recognized as the country’s top government relations professional by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) in honor of her exceptional work advocating for cancer-fighting legislation. ACS CAN, the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, presents the award each year to a government relations professional who has worked tirelessly to make a significant, lasting impression in cancer-related public policy.

TOPEKA, Kan. – Sept. 27, 2018 – The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network will host its third-annual Kansas Cancer Policy Forum for community members about the unique challenges of accessing cancer treatment in rural Kansas on Thursday, Oct. 4.

Emily Fain of Atlanta was presented the Emerging Leader award by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) for her innovative advocacy efforts to help make cancer a national priority. This annual award is presented to a state volunteer who has demonstrated a promising start in her role with ACS CAN by taking advantage of new opportunities to advocate for cancer patients.

Maureen Mann was awarded the Volunteer Award for Excellence in Advocacy by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) in recognition of her efforts to help make cancer a national priority.  Each year, a lead volunteer who has consistently demonstrated strong leadership while advocating in areas of cancer-related public policy receives this award.

Jacqueline Beale of Glenn Dale, Maryland was named the State Lead Ambassador (SLA) of the Year by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) for her dedicated volunteer and advocacy efforts to help make cancer a national priority. This annual award is presented to a lead ACS CAN volunteer who has demonstrated exemplary leadership while advocating for ACS CAN’s priority areas of cancer-related public policy.

New York, NY – Key international stakeholders, diplomats and public health leaders will gather in New York City today to discuss ways to accelerate and collaborate on the global elimination of cervical cancer through vaccinations, screening, diagnostics and treatment.

Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed a combined Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services (LHHS) bill that includes a $2 billion increase for medical research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and a total of $6.1 billion for the National Cancer Institute (NCI). 

Virginia State Sen. Hanger received the National Distinguished Advocacy Award from the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network in recognition of his dedication to expand access to health care.
