Strike Out Cancer!

Healthy Eating and Active Living

How do diet and exercise impact cancer risk?  And how can policy impact that risk?

Approximately one in five cancers are related to poor nutrition, physical inactivity and excess weight. Over the past 30 years, excess weight and obesity rates have more than doubled for adults and tripled for youth.

On August 21, join us to learn much more.  Hear experts from our local leading research institutions share their latest work.  Then thanks to our gracious hosts, the Oakland A's, you are welcome to join us after the discussion for the baseball game.

Marcia Stefanick, PhD is a professor of medicine at the Stanford Prevention Research Center and professor of obstetrics and gynecolocy. Dr. Stefanick is a leading pioneer in women's health research and has been at the forefront of the study of aging, including the role of diet and nutritional supplements, physical activity and body composition on chronic disease.

June Chan, ScD is a professor of epidemiology and biostatistics and Stacey Kenfield, ScD is an assistant professor of urology at University of California San Francisco. Drs. Chan and Kenfield research nutritional and lifestyle risk factors for prostate cancer incidence and progression to identify opportunities for prevention and improved survival in men diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Erik Muller, President, The Fruitguys. Erik is a husband, father, and cancer survivor who lives an active life, while helping to promote healthier choices for others.  The Fruitguys is a San Francisco based company that provides farm fresh fruit to businesses so that employees have healthy options during their workdays.

Parking at the Coliseum will be free. Please park in Lot A. Go the east side of that lot (nearest the BART tracks) and then walk up the ramp. Doors for the East Side Club will be on your right.

From the Richmond line, use the Coliseum stop. That platfrom is only steps from the East Side Club doors.

Please allow time to park and get inside. Check-in will begin at 4:30 with hors d'oeuvres and networking. There are cash bars available at the Coliseum for those who are interested. Ballpark attire is acceptable. The program begins promptly at 5:00.

Tickets may be purchased using the RSVP button at the top of this page.  Sponsorships are also available using that button.
