It's time to protect our Wyoming kids from Big Tobacco!
Let's make tobacco prevention--and the thousands of lives it will save--a priority in Wyoming!
We are working hard in Wyoming to move forward legislation that would prevent kids from ever starting to smoke and help people who use tobacco quit.
This proposal has bipartisan support and we are urging all lawmakers to support this important effort. Significantly raising tobacco prices by increasing tobacco taxes and providing additional funding for state tobacco prevention programs is a proven means of preventing our youth from smoking and helping adults quit. Here is evidence why our elected representatives need to step up and support an increase in our tobacco tax and prevention and cessation funding:
- Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death of Wyoming citizens.
- It has been more than fifteen years since lawmakers last increased Wyoming's cigarette tax.
- By increasing the cigarette tax by $1.50 per pack we would save 1,700 lives and prevent 2,800 youth under 18 from ever becoming adult smokers.
I call on you to show your support for legislation increasing Wyoming's cigarette tax by $1.50 per pack with an equivalent tax increase on all other tobacco products, including e-cigarettes.
