It’s Time to Protect Nebraska Children from Skin Cancer

More and more young Nebraskans are getting diagnosed with skin cancer. We cannot protect teenagers from melanoma and other skin cancers unless we prohibit minors from using indoor tanning facilities.

The evidence is clear:

  • Melanoma is one of the fastest growing cancers among young women.
  • People using tanning beds before the age of 35 increase their risk of melanoma, which is the deadliest form of skin cancer, by 59%.
  • Over 14% of Nebraska 12th grade students surveyed reported using a tanning bed in the last 12 months. (Preliminary 2017 YRBS Report)

I call on you to show your support for legislation that restricts children 18 and under from using indoor tanning devices.

Thank you for taking action on reducing skin cancer in Nebraska. Please visit our state website for additional updates and action opportunities relative to prohibiting teens from using tanning devices.  https://fightcancer.org/states/nebraska
