Mr. Marquardt currently serves on Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, Inc., and the American Cancer Society. He previously served as Chair of the Society’s former South Atlantic Division Board.
Mr. Marquardt is an experienced director serving corporations with operations throughout Asia, Europe, and the U.S. The National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) has awarded Michael its highest credential (Board Leadership Fellow), featuring him as a speaker and author on corporate governance and global directorship issues.
During the past 10 years, Mr. Marquardt has served as chairman of a medical assistance company based in Kuala Lumpur with offices in 9 countries. After the operations in 5 countries were acquired, he took on the board leadership role of the remaining operations in Indonesia, Taiwan, and Korea. Late in 2016, Mr. Marquardt was elected chairman of the supervisory board of Paris-based industry alliance IAG.
Mr. Marquardt serves on the Board of Directors of Commonwealth Trust Company, an independent trust company based in Delaware with more than US$10 billion in assets under administration. He also serves on the board of the Delaware Theatre Company (Director Emeritus).
In addition to his board service, as CEO of Global Kompass Strategies, Inc. over the past 6 years, Mr. Marquardt has been a global advisor to corporations all over the world. He works closely with CEOs on business development, cybersecurity and strategic planning. He also advises boards on effective risk management, corporate governance, geographic expansion, and emerging digital technology issues.
Mr. Marquardt grew up in Berlin and immigrated to the United States two years after witnessing the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of New England and Master’s degree from the University of Virginia.
